Hello Parents! I would like to welcome you and your student to 5th grade at Lebanon Grade School! I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself. My name is Amy Venhaus, and I am your child’s teacher this year. Recently, I have graduated from McKendree University with my Bachelor’s in Elementary Education. This past summer I got married and went from Ms. Baer to Mrs. Venhaus. There are two Mrs. Venhaus’ in the district now so try not to get confused! Two years ago I taught social studies here at Lebanon for the 6th, 7th, and 8th graders. Last year was my first year I enjoy traveling, cooking, and teaching! This year each student in 5th grade will be given a student planner. Each day the students will write down their daily assignments as well as other important information. Students are expected to bring their planner home each night and have a parent/guardian initial it before returning it to school to be checked. Along with the planners, our school uses Friday Folders. Each Friday, your child will bring home a folder with school notes and the work they have completed throughout the week. This is a great time to discuss with your student what they have been doing in school. Today, the class and I discussed our classroom rules. They are as follows, 1. Listen and follow directions. 2. Respect others. 3. Be prepared. Each day, everyone will begin with a green “A” conduct card. If a student chooses to misbehave, they will pull a card. Each card pulled decreases the student’s conduct grade to a yellow “B”, blue “C”, orange “D”, or red “F” corresponding to an appropriate consequence. Once a student stays on green “A” conduct card the entire week, they will be rewarded. After our discussion today, each child is aware of my expectations. I look forward to this school year and the exciting new experiences it brings. I will be keeping in touch about your student’s progress. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions. The best way to reach me is to write a note in your child’s planner or Friday folder or email me at abaer@stclair.k12.il.us. I can also be reached after 3:10 at (618) 537-4553. I look forward to meeting you. Sincerely,
